needed materials

You will need the following materials:

Note: this is a method for a smaller and less heavy pony tail.

  •  Heatgun
  • Scissors
  • Wig scissors (I use a barber scissors for it, never cut something else with it!)
  • Worbla Crobra cast (because its light weight)
  • old pencil (or stick)
  • Clip in wig net (the wig I bought had a clip in pony tale ,I stripes the netting from the clip.)
  • Wig head
  • T-pins
  • Heat proof hands

Safety note:
You will be working with real hot material, make sure not o burn yourself with the heat gun or the worbla

heat it up
roll the stick in halfway the mesh, and make a bump with the excess.
looking good

trust the progress
cut off the rest

Step 1

Making the base

cut a stroke of worbla croba cast, this should have a height of 2x the wanted ponytail distance from the wig. the length is up to you, this will be the thickness of the ponytail (remember you can always ad more)

Heat up the worbla cobra cast with your heat gun, I like to do that around a 200°C.
Fold the length of the heated worbla cobra cast in half. press it carefully together and reheat it again, roll the worbla cobra cast around the end of an old paint brush.

While the worbla cobra cast is still worm press the top part (where there is no stick) into a flat ball.
I pressed the stick on the table to flatten the top and rounded the sides by rolling it over the table. You will have a funny looking paintbrush now.

Cut of the excess of the stick (so it won't pinch in your head), and round the bottom by pressing the worbla cobra cast around it with your fingers. let everything cool down before continuing to the next step.

poke it through the wig net

head till soft with a heat gun

2 layers thick for more strength

support the bump with pins

Step 2

Attaching the base to your wig

This will be the challenging part.
First test if your bump is wide enough to hold the wig net, do this by pulling the elastic.

Decide where you want your pony tail to be, press the small side of your bump in the wig. Heat up a square of worbla cobra cast and carefully heat up the bottom of your bump, watch out you don't want to burn your wig in this step. When both part are worm press the bump in the middle of the worbla cobra cast square.
Now carefully place the wig on a wig head, this will make sure the worbla cobra cast is curved in the shape of your head. When on the wig head you can hold the bump in place with your hands or some pins, let everything cool down.

cover the bump with the ponytail cap
place a firm knot
cut off the excess elastic

Step 3

Attaching the ponytail

Check if the bump is standing correctly. if not you can always add another square of worbla cobra cast to secure it more.

cover your bump with the wig net (that you can remove from the clip) and pull the elastic real tight. Ad a knot in the elastic and cut off the excess elastic.

For the perfect finish wrap a band around the pony tail that matches your outfit.

One more thing!
Wear with pride, you just made a epic ponytail!

Easy crafting cart hack with the Ikea raskog troll Easy crafting cart hack with the Ikea raskog trolley and a small skadis board, combine them by replacing 2 of the M5 screws with 30 mm long versions. They cost me about 15 cents for the screws at the hardware store which was next to the ikea.

Over the years I've seen many variants of this crafting trolley build and it mostly included solutions that I didn't like myself, so I thought lets show you how to attach the skadis board without the need of 3D prints, pipe clamps or tiewraps. But doing it this way makes the fusion more seemless between the two parts.

No more walking around to get and store the things I use most.

Sewing is a slow progress, especially when you als Sewing is a slow progress, especially when you also draft all the patterns yourself.

In the last month I managed to make all the basic patterns and cut out the skirt and corset panels. If you follow my stories you probably already seen some wip of the skirt, I will continue working on it when the last materials arrive.
This week I hope to start working on the corset.

On the side I did a lot of paint tests which I will show when the last test has been done, for now I'm waiting for the last paint color to arrive.
The preparation always takes up a lot of time.

New ironing trolley Ikea hack. I noticed the Ikea New ironing trolley Ikea hack.

I noticed the Ikea has a new "gaming trolley" and it was a suitable size for a potential ironing station, so I tried it out and it works amazing 😍. Now everything I need is close by and it's easily stored underneath my desk for when I need more floor space. Even my biggest pressing pillow fits in the bottom compartment and there is still space left for future pressing tools.

Sadly the skadis like plates on the sides are thin metal, meaning most skadis accessories won't work on them. However all metal mesh baskets and some other accessories have a thin flat metal hook that you could be bent a little to make it compatible with the trolley, I did this with the hook strip and 2 clips.

I hope this may inspire you to make your own ironing solutions.

I can finally see what I'm sewing after installing I can finally see what I'm sewing after installing a light kit.

This led light kit is a cheap magnetic one I got from AliExpress, I cut it apart and re-soldered the wires so it could be connected to the power switch of the sewing table.
Now the light switches on when I turn on the sewing machine, a function I really like myself since I simply forget to turn off my lights at times.

After the installation I almost got a headache from the intensity of the light reflection of the ground plate. To fix that issue Kem made a bespoke light diffuser with the 3d printer, with a 1mm tolerance to the needle screw.

I'm so happy with how the upgrades turned out, now the coverlock is next to get the last bits of love it needs before I can start calibrating it.

A Thistle dress update as last, the needed needles just came in. I hope to start sewing the skirt this week.

If you follow my stories you probably already saw If you follow my stories you probably already saw that I got 2 sweet atelier upgrades, a Juki DDL-5550N & Juki MO2516.
A straight stitch and 5 thread coverlock.

After kem did a full calibration service on my triple transport global, I felt how lovely these industrial sewing machines purr and I started keeping my eyes out at the 2nd hand market. I must admit they were in poor condition when they arrived but with the deal I got I don't mind doing the maintenance myself.
Over the last 2 months I cleaned both machines, collected parts and replaced what was damaged. Currently they are both clean and run smoothly, the normal machine maintenance is done. I'm only waiting for the needles to come in so I can start my new project on these new machines.

I'm still not done with everything, I like to add better lighting and fix the damaged table of the coverlock.

I honestly never thought that I would ever get this kind of equipment in the available room that I have, but I'm excited to experience it.

I'm super excited to have most of the materials fo I'm super excited to have most of the materials for my upcoming thistle dress, if you haven't seen the design yet please check my previous post to see the sketch and inspiration.

The fabrics shown are mostly the fashion fabrics, I left out the structural fabrics and materials.
I can't wait to start this project, I finally have the opportunity to do a technique with velvet that has been on my list for over a decade. But before I can start cutting fabric there are a lot of sample tests that need to be done, there are already 2 sample tests on the tulle to give a little hint.
