Sewing Difficulty’s Explained

Sewing patterns & Blueprints for every skill level.

I like to create patterns that are beginner-friendly, so someone who is new to the hobby can try out sewing without a lot of risk. As well as patterns for established characters, who got the basic techniques in there skill set. And patterns for the Experts, those who already combine multiple crafting skills and are seasoned in there work.

This gave me quite a challenge on what skill should be difficult for starters, they might not even have someone with experience around to help them out. Other skills might be considered "normal" whilst it can become a real struggle when you start out.

In the end I went for a 5 star rating system, ★ star for a beginner & ★★★★★ stars if your an expert.

Below I will explain what skill is used in what difficulty level.
There might be cases where half stars are used, this indicated that you need 1 or 2 skill(s) form the next difficulty level.
Products might be difficulty ranged, these become more difficult if you add an extra pack for example an STL pack.

Don't push yourself and learn in your own tempo

Hopefully the star rating system helps you figuring out what patterns / blueprints are suited for your skill level. Do know that the star rating system is not a checklist that you should master or accomplish! It's a hobby everyone enjoys on there own. Some might strive to become an expert, while others enjoy themself on there own passe.

If you're exited and want to pick up the so called "sewing basics" I would recommend picking up these 3 skills first: Installing a blind zipper - installing a sleeve head -  making buttonholes (could be done by hand)

After pinning all 3 lace layer on the corset and s After pinning all 3 lace layer on the corset and staring at it for over a week, I decided I didn't like it.

Before sewing on the lace layers I like to just stare at the corset a little every day for at least a week, this to make sure I'm happy with the placement. This time it was a good choice not to rush in and wait, after a while I found the top layers were taking over to much of the velvet and it felt out of balance overtime.

I'm happy I replaced the lace layers on the corset and feel more secure to start on the other side, the lace layout won't be symmetrical this time wich is a new challenge for me.

What would you prefer yourself? The first layout or the second one?

When you're told to be outside more as a corset ma When you're told to be outside more as a corset maker.

I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately but I'm happy to get back working on the corset.
With the nice weather lately I've spend some days heat cutting synthetic lace, I'm still short of breath so by cutting the lace outside I don't have to wear a respirator.
I can't wait to start laying the freshly cut applications on the green velvet corset, I'm going for a depth effect as " When light glimmer through the leaves of a thistle field".

Planning out my first lace layer using this gorgeo Planning out my first lace layer using this gorgeous vintage lace that's been in my stock for over 15 years.

I'm trying out 2 lace lines, the left side has more lace volume than the right side. Pinning on 2 different shapes and leaving them on for a couple of days while looking at the design always helps me to make final choices. Which side is your favorite?
I know the lace design itself isn't symmetrical, my original sketch is asymmetric and thats why I finally had a purpose for this beautiful tri tone lace.

Mini fabric thistle test process, since I don't ow Mini fabric thistle test process, since I don't own a laser cutter myself I'm testing out my patterns with my plotter. You can see why using the plotter isn't optimal. (I have cut different types of fabric with different plotters and I'm not looking for advise)
I love doing little tests like this and learn more from my materials, getting a feeling on how the petals shape.

I just ordered multiple types of lace and beads to decorate the corset with and while I'm waiting for it's arrival I hope to prepare the files for the laser.

I wasn't sure if I should upload this at first, bu I wasn't sure if I should upload this at first, but this was my honest first reaction from both fittings.
Same velvet corset at a different stage of construction.

I really love how a bespoke corset can shape the body.
Before I fit it again I will work on the lace layers and mini thistles as decoration, I just ordered some extra lace and already did the first tests on the mini thistles.
I hope you're as exited as I am to see this velvet beauty come to life.

Second test fitting of the velvet corset ,I did al Second test fitting of the velvet corset ,I did all the adjustments I wanted and the corset now has it's final shape.

For this test fitting I inserted the minimal amount of boning just to check it's shape. Personally I think there is a huge difference between the first and second test fitting, the shape is better and the corset has an opening at the back now.

What did I do? I replaced the 6 back panels and did miner shape alterations at the breasts and waistline, this could be as small as a 1mm difference but the results are visible.
